    Day 1: Man-made Wonders

    From the glory of God’s country to the wonders of modern engineering, our trip also includes a tour of awe-inspiring, man-made monuments. We explore Salt Lake City, preparing to delve more in depth tomorrow.

    Day 2: Cowboys and Gunslingers

    In Salt Lake City, we catch a glimpse of the neo-gothic Salt Lake Temple, the iconic representation of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints. Built between 1853 and 1893, the temple is a stunning example of artistry, and lends an ethereal tone of serenity to the surrounding Temple Square.

    Then grab your ten-gallon hat and reach for your six-gun, because we step back in time to experience life on the frontier.

    We start with historic Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where you’ll stroll the wooden plank sidewalks of downtown and catch a glimpse of gunplay every night in the town square.

    Day 3: Grand Teton National Park

    In Jackson, cowboy traditions come alive during the summer months, when latter-day cowpunchers strut their stuff at the Jackson Hole Rodeo. After Labor Day, we’ll enjoy a show at the Jackson Hole Playhouse.

    While staying in Jackson, enjoy the “purple mountain majesties” of the Grand Tetons as we drift along on a scenic float trip down the beautiful Snake River. We may glimpse wildlife along the way; our route includes the National Elk Refuge, with its population of approximately 5,000 wintering elk as well as the largest bison herd in the National Wildlife Refuge System.

    Day 4: Yellowstone Day 1

    Our tour includes a two-night stay in Yellowstone, the oldest U.S. national park. The park’s geothermal wonders – including the world-famous geyser, Old Faithful – offer a dramatic showcase for Mother Nature at her most powerful. We also take in the glorious vistas of the park’s Grand Canyon, a natural structure that took shape more than 10,000 years ago.

    Day 6: Western Legends: Buffalo Bill

    Wyoming is home to a legendary figure of the Old West, Buffalo Bill Cody. From his early days working on the wagon trains and riding for the Pony Express to his exploits as an expert tracker, sharpshooter and showman, Cody embodied the ideal of the American plains. At the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, you will meet this Western hero, as well as Annie Oakley, Sitting Bull, and Texas Jack.

    Day 7: Deadwood and Devil's Tower

    Immerse yourself in the frontier life of yesteryear in Deadwood, South Dakota. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1967, Deadwood preserves the history and lore of the rough-and-ready West from the city’s beginnings as a lawless mining town.

    Walk the same streets as Wild Bill Hickok (who met his maker at the end of a pistol in one of Deadwood’s many saloons) and Calamity Jane, and see the town’s stately Victorians, restored gambling palaces, and “old-tyme” watering holes. Our tour also includes a trip to Boot Hill, the last resting place of Deadwood’s famous and not-so-famous denizens.

    We also enjoy seeing the Black Hills of South Dakota, with its sturdy pines and towering precipices, and the awe-inspiring heights of Wyoming’s Devils Tower. A looming presence, this natural monolith inspired countless Indian legends (we’ll learn more than a few!) and took its place in American film history in Stephen Spielberg’s classic film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

    Day 8: Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands

    We close our tour with one of the most inspiring sites in the American landscape, Mt. Rushmore. The towering visages of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt have provided a stirring memorial to the country’s greatest leaders since they were completed in 1941. We also stop at the imposing sculpture of the Crazy Horse Memorial, a work in progress that serves as tribute to the Native Americans who originally lived in these beautiful hills.

    Day 1: Fly to Santa Fe

    Fly to Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Go Ahead representative greets you at the airport and then accompanies you on the transfer to Santa Fe. Settle into your hotel and meet your fellow travelers at tonight's included dinner. (D)

    Accommodations: Courtyard by Marriott, 3 stars. At the Courtyard by Marriott Santa Fe, early Native American culture blends with modern luxury for a unique lodging experience. Just minutes away from numerous local attractions, the hotel offers the ideal destination for the leisure or business traveler. At the end of the day, unwind in the heated indoor pool or two soothing spas. The atmosphere is always warm, friendly, and inviting.

    Day 2: Santa Fe

    Settled by a Spanish conquistador nearly 400 years ago, Santa Fe is now an exuberant blend of Spanish, Mexican and Native American influences. This morning, begin exploring the city on your own or opt for an exhilerating hot air balloon ride above the city and the surrounding countryside (weather permitting). This afternoon, a local guide leads a guided tour of the city. Visit landmarks including the Cross of the Martyrs, Loretto Chapel and Saint Francis Cathedral. With a free afternoon to explore, you might wish to visit the Museum of Fine Arts or browse through Santa Fe’s galleries and boutiques. (B)

    Hot Air Balloon: $335. Sail through the gentle morning air high above Santa Fe on this breathtaking sunrise excursion. Admire the incomparable sight of Canyon Road and the downtown district , as the first pink rays of the sun wash over Santa Fe. This time of the day offers the best opportunity to view the city, and you’ll enjoy commanding views of the surrounding countryside from your aerial vantage point. In addition, enjoy a celebration of your adventure with champagne and fresh juice.

    Day 3: Mesa Verde

    Cross the Colorado border and stop in Durango, an authentic Old West mining town. Then visit Mesa Verde National Park, where you’ll view the 800-year-old cliff dwellings built in to the canyon walls. (B, D)

    Accommodations: Far View Lodge, 3 stars. The Far View Lodge is a peaceful retreat sitting on a high shoulder of the mesa. With minimal distractions, and great views this is the perfect place to sit outdoors on peaceful evenings are watch the sunset, or hawks circling a darkening sky. Here you will enjoy beautiful vistas reaching into three states, convenient access to guided tours and wonderful range of casual to fine dining choices.

    Day 4: Mesa Verde to Kayenta

    Your day begins with a guided tour of Mesa Verde, led by an expert local guide who regales you with stories of this historical region. Continue on to Monument Valley on the border of Arizona and Utah. Part of the Navajo Reservation, the park contains a collection of monoliths and spires. Later, arrive in Kayenta, Arizona, where you’ll spend the night. (B)

    Accommodations: Hampton Inn, Monument Valley, 3 stars. The Hampton Inn Kayenta hotel in Arizona is located in the heart of the Navajo Nation.     Day 5: Kayenta to Grand Canyon

    Reach the Grand Canyon, perhaps America’s most astounding natural wonder. One mile below the rim runs the Colorado River, while the rocky canyon sides reflect over a billion years of geological evolution in their striated patterns. Begin your exploration with this afternoon’s visit to the South Rim. (B, D)

    Accommodations: Grand Canyon Squire Inn, 3 stars. Enjoy spacious accommodations at this Grand Canyon hotel, perfectly situated just minutes from the park entrance.     Day 6: Grand Canyon

    Day 7: Travel to Zion

    Pass by Lake Powell, a favorite southwestern vacation destination, on your way to Zion. During your visit to Zion National Park—including a tram ride—discover why the Mormon settlers of the 19th century named it after their heavenly city. Zion is famous for its dramatically eroded sedimentary rocks, whose yellow and orange hues create magnificent vistas contrasted with the thick green foliage along the riverbanks. (B)

    Accommodations: Best Western, Zion Park, 3 stars. Zion Park Inn is tucked in among the towering red rock cliffs of Zion National Park. Tour the park by bus and by foot for up-close views of this fascinating phenomenon. Arrive later in Salt Lake City, Utah’s capital and host city of the 2002 Winter Olympics. (B)

Then reach Jackson, a colorful resort town popular with skiers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. (B)

    Snake River Float: $65. One of the best ways to see the Grand Tetons—the glorious peaks that surround Jackson Hole—is by boat. Yes, by boat. On a raft ride down a tranquil stretch of the Snake River, you’ll have a great chance of glimpsing some of Wyoming’s wildlife, including soaring eagles and brown bears fishing for salmon.     Day 1: Arrive Jackson, Wyoming and Grand Teton Nat'l Park

    Day 2: Raft down the Snake River and explore the Grand Tetons

    Marvel at the incredible scenery of Grand Teton National Park,
    including sparkling Jenny Lake, before setting off on a rafting
    adventure* down the Snake River. Along the way, your guide will help
    you spot the beavers, eagles, elks and other animals that live in the
    park. Spend some time in the historic town of Jackson and check out
    some of the fun things to do at Jackson Lake Lodge. During your Cowboy Country
    journey, you'll also have a unique chance to work along with fellow
    guests and park experts on a special service project as part of Tauck's

    Day 3: A close-up look inside Yellowstone National Park

    Today you'll travel from the Grand Tetons to America's first and most
    famous national park, spectacular Yellowstone – where your "home away
    from home" for the next two nights is just steps away from the famous
    Old Faithful Geyser! Keep an eye out for Yellowstone's diverse wildlife
    as you explore some of the famous features of the park -- whose
    geologic wonders include two-thirds of all the geysers in the world –
    with your Tauck Director.

    Day 4: Mud pots and more on a perfect Yellowstone vacation day

    Start your day in remarkable Yellowstone with a wildlife-spotting walk;
    endangered species from whooping cranes to gray wolves are protected
    here. See some of the 10,000 hot springs within the park, as well as
    bubbling pools of mud and volcanic calderas with an expert local guide;
    and, a short distance from your lodge, watch mighty Old Faithful shoot
    its plume of steam high into the air just about every hour – a
    highlight of any Yellowstone vacation!

    Day 5: Learn about Buffalo Bill's West and go to a rodeo

    Say goodbye to Yellowstone and head across Wyoming to historic Cody,
    founded by the famous "Buffalo Bill" Cody, from whom the town got its
    name. Glimpse the history, culture and art of the heyday of the
    American West at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, where multiple
    museums each tell a different side of the story. Have a western dinner
    and then thrill to bucking broncos, steer wrestlers, calf ropers and
    barrel riders at a real western rodeo tonight.

    Day 6: Bighorn Mountains and The Ranch at Ucross

    Journey through Wyoming's beautiful Bighorn Mountains today, past deep
    canyons, vast grasslands, and blankets of wildflowers to The Ranch at
    Ucross, a real working ranch, for a memorable overnight stay. Ranch
    experiences include an opportunity to go horseback riding*, fish for
    trout in Piney Creek or a stocked trout pond, swim in the pool, pitch
    some horseshoes or even hunt for frogs! Your time at the ranch is
    certain to be one of the highlights of your Grand Teton and Yellowstone
    vacation; top the night off with an old-fashioned campfire.

    Day 7: A tale of two carvings – Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore

    Depart the ranch and head for the Black Hills of South Dakota. Look up
    in wonder at the Crazy Horse Memorial, where you'll view the work in
    progress as artisans carve the likeness of the famous Lakota warrior
    out of the mountain; when completed, it will be the largest rock
    sculpture in the world. Then it's on to view the towering stone
    portraits of four American presidents at Mount Rushmore, one of the
    must-see landmark sights in the U.S. Join us for a farewell dinner this

    Day 1: Arrive in Rapid City

    . (Sat.) Welcome to Rapid City, gateway to the Black Hills. At 6:30 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

    Day 2: Rapid City–Badlands National Park–Custer State Park

    . (Sun.) After breakfast, enjoy an orientation tour of Rapid City, then visit BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK to see some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. Afterward, there’s time to explore Wall Drug, well-known for its quirky roadside signs and free water. Later this afternoon, enjoy a BUFFALO SAFARI and a CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT. (B,D)Special Feature: We overnight at the Historic State Game Lodge in Custer State Park. This gracious stone and wood lodge is set in a beautiful mountain valley, surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest. The State Game Lodge served as the “Summer White House” for President Calvin Coolidge and was visited by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It was built in 1920 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    Day 3: Custer State Park

    . (Mon.) This morning you will travel to Hot Springs to visit the world’s largest MAMMOTH SITE, where scientists are currently excavating remains of woolly mammoths that were trapped and died in the pond more than 26,000 years ago. After a short tour, you’ll have time to stroll the sidewalks of the dig area and see the paleontology laboratory. The remainder of the day is yours to relax in Custer State Park. Perhaps try some fly-fishing, mountain biking, or take a nature walk. (B,D)

    Day 4: Custer State Park–Deadwood

    . (Tue.) Today, visit two of the world’s largest stone monuments: MOUNT RUSHMORE and CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL. At Mount Rushmore, the solid granite faces of four presidents loom more than a thousand feet overhead. We then continue on a guided tour of the Old West town of DEADWOOD, where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are laid to rest on Boot Hill. We spend the night deep in the heart of one of the most breathtakingly beautiful canyons in the world. The location for scenes from the movie Dances with Wolves, Spearfish Canyon Lodge sits nested among lofty pines and spectacular cliffs. (B,D)

    Day 5: Deadwood–U-Cross Ranch–Cody

    . (Wed.) This morning, drive through scenic Spearfish Canyon and across the grassy plains of Wyoming. Enjoy lunch at an authentic WESTERN RANCH, where you can try your hand at fly-fishing, horseback riding, or take a dip in the pool. Next, we cross the Bighorn Mountains via Shell Creek Canyon to Buffalo Bill’s Wild West town of Cody, Wyoming. (B,L)

    Day 6: Cody–Yellowstone National Park

    . (Thu.) Enjoy a leisurely visit to the BUFFALO BILL HISTORIC CENTER, a fascinating tribute to frontier America. Later, depart for YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, America’s first national park, where wild animals roam freely in vast meadows and forest. When conditions are unfavorable, the routing may be adjusted accordingly.Special Feature: Tonight, stay at the majestic Lake Yellowstone Hotel. This afternoon and evening are free to explore on your own. You may choose to see a shoot-out in Town Square, shop for souvenirs, or relax with a cold drink at the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.     Day 9: Jackson

    Day 1: Arrive in Salt Lake City

    . Welcome to Salt Lake City! At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

    Day 2: Salt Lake City–Jackson

    . Morning sightseeing focuses on the city’s many historic monuments, including Temple Square. Continue northward into Wyoming and reach the all-Western town of Jackson. This evening, enjoy the BAR T-5 CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT and Wild West show. (B,D)

    Day 3: Jackson

    . Depart for the alpine village of Teton, where you will board an AERIAL TRAM that will carry you to the summit of 10,450-foot Rendezvous Peak. From the top, enjoy a spectacular panorama of the Teton Range and the Jackson Hole Valley. The afternoon and evening are at leisure to stroll along the downtown boardwalks and enjoy a drink in one of the swing-door saloons. (B)Note: Jackson Hole Aerial Tram is always subject to favorable weather conditions.

    Day 4: Jackson–Grand Teton National Park–Yellowstone National Park

    . Morning is free in Jackson to explore the array of shops and museums in the historic downtown area. Then, head north through GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK and on to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, established in 1872 as the world’s first national park. Admire famous Old Faithful Geyser that has been erupting consistently for more than 100 years. (B,D)Note: The routing and areas visited within Yellowstone are subject to favorable weather and/or road conditions. When conditions are unfavorable, the routing may be adjusted accordingly.

    Day 5: Yellowstone. Mammoth Hot Springs & Yellowstone Lake

    . A scenic drive with a stop at Fountain Paint Pots. At Mammoth Hot Springs, take a short trail walk through steaming limestone terraces. Rejoin Grand Loop Road and enjoy several photo stops with the best perhaps at Yellowstone River’s Lower Falls, almost twice as high as Niagara. (B,D)

    Day 6: Yellowstone–Cody

    . Near the east exit of the park, watch for wildlife. Leave Yellowstone for Cody, named after dashing Buffalo Bill Cody. This afternoon, visit the BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTER, a fine museum of weapons and Western art. Later, enjoy free time or an optional float trip on the Shoshone River. (B,D)

    Day 7: Cody–Little Bighorn Battlefield–Sheridan

    . Enjoy this morning’s scenic drive through the Bighorn Mountains on your way to the LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD. Tour the battlegrounds where Custer was defeated by approximately 7,000 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors, and visit the museum. Then, head to the cattle town of Sheridan. (B)

    Day 8: Sheridan–Deadwood–Rapid City

    . Journey through the rolling hills of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin and BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST, arriving in South Dakota. On a guided tour of DEADWOOD, once a wild gold-mining town, hear stories of legendary Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Afterward, visit TATANKA to learn about “The Story of the Bison,” and experience the richness of the Lakota people, a Plains Indian buffalo culture. Continue to Rapid City. (B)

    Day 9: Rapid City. Visit to Mount Rushmore

    . The day begins with a visit to CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, built in honor of the fearless Sioux Indian chief. Afterward, explore MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, which features the monumental likenesses of four U.S. presidents—Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.     Day 1: Salt Lake City.

    Arrive in Salt Lake City. Pick up your rental car at the airport and start exploring or proceed to your hotel.

    Day 2: Salt Lake City–Jackson.

    Head north from Salt Lake City to Jackson, gateway to Grand Teton National Park. The Teton Range rises sharply from the basin floor and includes eight peaks over 12,000 feet in elevation. This wall of mountains runs for over 40 miles. Watch for wildlife—elk, moose, mule deer, and bison are common sights. Approximately 270 miles/434 km.

    Day 3: Jackson–Yellowstone National Park.

    Travel into Yellowstone, the world’s first national park. The park is a geothermal wonder and includes famous “Old Faithful,” which, amazingly, erupts on a set schedule. Approximately 141 miles/226 km.

    Day 4: Yellowstone National Park.

    You have an entire day to enjoy and explore this vast natural wonder. Some of the park’s highlights include the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Lake Yellowstone, and the Fountain Paint Pots.

    Day 5: Yellowstone National Park–Cody.

    Today, travel east to “Buffalo Bill” country. Cody is home to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, which houses five museums. Approximately 109 miles/175 km.

    Day 6: Cody–Sheridan.

    Today you may want to make a small detour on your journey to visit Little Bighorn Battlefield, the national monument that commemorates the epic battle known as “Custer’s Last Stand.” Then, on to Sheridan, where you can ride a trolley or stroll down Main Street. You’ll find Western flavor aplenty in the shops, taverns, and restaurants. Approximately 150 miles/241 km.

    Day 7: Sheridan–Rapid City Area.

    Continue east to the beautiful Black Hills. Consider a stop in the Wild West town of Deadwood or vist the nearby Crazy Horse Memorial. Overnight in historic Keystone, located at the base of Mount Rushmore. Approximately 246 miles/395 km.

    Day 8: Rapid City Area.

    Return your rental car at the Rapid City airport prior to departure.

    Days 1-2: New York Area & Washington DC

    First stop, the capital calls. Washington DC is the perfect introduction to the social, cultural and political history of the United States. Explore the best of America's Capitol - from the Smithsonian Museum to the Lincoln Memorial on the guided night time illumination tour. During the day the city is awash with greenery so once you're done with sightseeing, go people watching in the parks. Why not take advantage of the great nightlife in Georgetown!

    Days 3-4: Virginia & Tennessee

    From polished stone monuments to rocky paths, the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia put on a great glimpse of the rugged outdoors. In Tennessee, choose to don a lifejacket, grip a paddle and bounce along a churning stretch of white water on our optional rafting trip. Hey, we did say fast and furious!

    Day 5: Alabama/Mississippi

    Next, travel into the 'Deep South' to Alabama and Mississippi for a taste of true southern hospitality. License plates proclaim you're in the 'Heart of Dixie', as the radio pumps out a
    hatful of country tunes to back this up.

    Days 6-7: New Orleans

    Beyond Mississippi we hit Louisiana, home of the Big Easy & Bourbon Street. Now we're talking all that jazz! We head into the enchanting French Quarter of New Orleans and hear the real deal at Preservation Hall, echoing with chirpy trumpet and smooth sax. Sample a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's! New Orleans has more than just food, drink and music to offer. Do the Huckleberry Finn thing as you chug along the Mississippi River.

    Day 8: Louisiana/Texas

    Look for gators on our optional Louisiana swamp tour through the mysterious bayous of Cajun country (a must do!). The Lone Star bids you a big-hearted welcome for four nights in the mighty Texas. None of the other 47 continental states is bigger; come to think of it, everything seems vast in this pancake-flat expanse.

    Days 9-10: San Antonio

    Days 11-12: Texas & Carlsbad Caverns National Park

    The biggest state of the continental USA is also home to plenty of Mexican-American cuisine, "Tex-Mex", including spicy fajitas and tacos could be on the menu tonight. Do you know your stalactite from your stalagmite? Carlsbad Caverns boasts over 100 limestone caves sporting glinting minerals and telling names like the Hall of the White Giant and Green Lake Room.

    Day 13: Arizona / Roswell, New Mexico

    After a visit to the famous Roswell's UFO Museum, pitch your tents together and chew the fat long into the night. What are those lights in the sky?

    Day 14: Monument Valley

    Venturing into the desert southwest, we hit the iconic Monument Valley used in Hollywood scenes from Westerns to 2001: A Space Odyssey and everything in between. Get jeep-bound and flit between towering buttes and massive mesas. This is sacred Navajo land; take home their secrets, legends and the odd handcrafted keepsake. Tonight, experience a stunning sunset overlooking the valley.

    Days 15-16: Grand Canyon National Park

    No trip west is complete without a stop at the Grand Canyon and we have a full day tomorrow to experience the grandeur of Earth's natural wonder. Pack your best boots and don't forget your camera for a sunrise/sunset hike along the rim. For the more ambitious take the long hike down Bright Angel Trail to Plateau Point, or choose the "bird's eye" view on a scenic flight. Watching the sinking sun paint it amber, maroon and red, its breathtaking immensity still blows you away.

    Days 17-18: Lake Powell & Zion National Park

    Swim the deep blue waters of Lake Powell, formerly the great Glenn Canyon, or just sit back on the shore and soak up the powerful rays of this beautiful and surreal man-made desert oasis. Then onwards to Zion National Park. Explore the hidden canyons or maybe hike to Angels Landing. Okay, so getting up there can be devilish at times, but the famous trail puts Zion on a 360-degree display of this magnificent national park

    Days 19-20: Las Vegas

    With a sudden burst of neon, Vegas is right in your face - the greatest show on earth. Watch out though - some dub this place 'Lost Wages'! Why not cruise "The Strip" in a super-stretch limo, indulge in an all-you-can eat buffet, take in a show or just watch the amazing crowds, neon signs and attractions that many hotel casinos have to offer. And if that's not enough, take a helicopter flight back down The Strip or just gamble the night away in one of the world class casinos.

    Day 21: Los Angeles

    Journey across the desert and catch some California sun as you roll into the larger than life LA scene. Why not hang out at and people watch at Venice Beach tonight?

    Days 24-25: San Francisco

    San Francisco is next, "Everybody's Favourite City". Enjoy a full day to explore the city with plenty of time for shopping in China Town & Union Square, sightseeing and a stroll over the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe take a cruise on the bay for an unforgettable sunset, then go bar hopping 'til the tiny hours. Mission, Marina or Haight-Ashbury Districts usually check the right boxes.

    Days 26-27: Yosemite National Park

    Heading through Central California we take a scenic drive into the Yosemite National Park region and a chance to hike or bike through the extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths and spectacular waterfalls. Hike to Yosemite Falls, one of North America's highest, and capture El Capitan's great granite profile on camera. Keep your eyes peeled for the chance to view the park's abundant wildlife.

    Days 28-29: Lake Tahoe & Idaho/Nevada

    Set sail at Lake Tahoe on an optional sunset cruise or play the house in one of the flash casinos - though a gentle pedal boat ride, scenic parasailing or an energising jet-ski, may just as easily push your buttons. Now your posse heads across a heap more widescreen scenery as you edge westward through Idaho & Nevada.

    Days 30-31: Jackson

    Feel the old frontier spirit alive and kicking in the truly western town of Jackson, Wyoming. Fresh from conquering the Snake River rapids, one of America's last great untamed rivers, on an optional whitewater rafting trip, corral your posse into the nearest watering hole. Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a fine tip, with saddles for stools and trophy cow horns above the counter.

    Days 32-33: Yellowstone National Park

    Pitch up in the world's first National Park, Yellowstone. This is a superb wilderness of spouting geysers, waterfalls and simmering mud pools. A-grade American stars grace the trails - keep your eyes peeled for this abundant wildlife. Large herds of bison and elk roam the park and if you're lucky, you may even see bear or wolf.

    Day 34: Cody

    Next, it's Wild Wyoming, the heart of cowboy country, This is what Cody is all about. From its cowboy roots to its summer rodeos, shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head!

    Day 35: Sioux Indian Lands

    Yep, we're talking Mount Rushmore and the uniquely sculptured faces of our four greatest Presidents Close by, another rock-carved epic is shaping up: the Crazy Horse monument, a nod to the famed Lakota Indian war leader, very impressive!

    Days 36-37: Badlands National Park & South Dakota

    Never mind the "bad lands", touching down here feels like a moon landing. Low-slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw-tooth ridges have a bizarre lunar quality as you swap some photos. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle back for some shut-eye under canvas.

    Days 38-39: Chicago

    Our next stop is Chicago - the "Windy City", home to some of the greatest blues music in America. Soar up Willis Tower for dizzying views over the Windy City. Trawl the upmarket malls of Magnificent Mile and grab a slice of Chicago's deep-dish pizza before peddling on the included famous "Bobby's Bike Hike" tour.

    Day 40: Ohio

    Ask a "Buckeye" to tell you all about their state nut or how cool they think Cedar Point Amusement Park's rollercoasters are! Ride the Millenium Force - the greatest roller coaster in the world!

    From the edge of Lake Ontario, the sensation of crashing water is stupendous, the noise immense, at America's greatest national attractions, Niagara Falls. Wait 'til you're down on the water aboard 'Maid of the Mist', where the cascades pound, churn and foam right before your eyes. That's what you call a front row seat!

    Day 42: New York Area

    We roll into the New York Area and the end of our awesome Grand Trek! This tour is not scheduled to spend any time in New York City so make sure you book extra hotel nights and explore the sights and sounds of the Big Apple on your own. Splurge along Fifth Ave, hit the top of the Empire State Building, or soak up the trendy, laidback vibe of Greenwich Village before heading home.

    Day 5: Experience Buffalo Bill Country

    Day 1: Salt Lake City.

    Arrive in Salt Lake City. Pick up your rental car at the airport and start exploring or proceed to your hotel.

    Day 2: Salt Lake City–Jackson.

    Head north from Salt Lake City to Jackson, gateway to Grand Teton National Park. The Teton Range rises sharply from the basin floor and includes eight peaks over 12,000 feet in elevation. This wall of mountains runs for over 40 miles. Watch for wildlife—elk, moose, mule deer, and bison are common sights. Approximately 270 miles/434 km.

    Day 3: Jackson–Yellowstone National Park.

    Travel into Yellowstone, the world’s first national park. The park is a geothermal wonder and includes famous “Old Faithful,” which, amazingly, erupts on a set schedule. Approximately 141 miles/226 km.

    Day 4: Yellowstone National Park.

    You have an entire day to enjoy and explore this vast natural wonder. Some of the park’s highlights include the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Lake Yellowstone, and the Fountain Paint Pots.

    Day 5: Yellowstone National Park–Cody.

    Today, travel east to “Buffalo Bill” country. Cody is home to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, which houses five museums. Approximately 109 miles/175 km.

    Day 6: Cody–Sheridan.

    Today you may want to make a small detour on your journey to visit Little Bighorn Battlefield, the national monument that commemorates the epic battle known as “Custer’s Last Stand.” Then, on to Sheridan, where you can ride a trolley or stroll down Main Street. You’ll find Western flavor aplenty in the shops, taverns, and restaurants. Approximately 150 miles/241 km.

    Day 7: Sheridan–Rapid City Area.

    Continue east to the beautiful Black Hills. Consider a stop in the Wild West town of Deadwood or vist the nearby Crazy Horse Memorial. Overnight in historic Keystone, located at the base of Mount Rushmore. Approximately 246 miles/395 km.

    Day 8

    Enjoy two additional nights in the Rapid City area and take advantage of all this area has to offer. With your time here, you may want to explore Custer State Park with its free-roaming herds of buffalo, or Jewel Cave National Monument, which contains the third-longest cave in the world.

    Day 9

    Day 10: Rapid City Area.

    Day 1: Meet and Greet in Salt Lake City

    The group will meet up in Salt Lake City. We will visit the gorgeous Mormon Temple Grounds before a group dinner. Everyone receives detailed itinerary information.

    Days 2-3: Exploring Salt Lake City

    Visit Utah’s grandiose capitol building, then explore Red Butte Botanical Gardens, where rare birds, rabbits, lizards and other animals reside. Afternoon at Antelope Island State Park, habitat for much North American wildlife. Optional swim in Salt Lake, and watch sunset.

    Visit to 2002 Winter Olympics Park, with Alf Engen Ski Museum, and possibly watch training for ski jumping. Next, see rare fossils of fish, leaves, turtles and more amid wildlife at Fossil Butte National Monument.

    Day 4: Fossil Hunting, Geysers and Wildlife

    See Wild West town Kemmerer. Optional fish-fossil hunting excursion for prehistoric treasures (small fee). Visit Soda Springs with the highest geyser in America, look at tracks remaining from Oregon Trail pioneers. Afternoon at Grays Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

    Days 5-7: Spend some time exploring Yellowstone National Park

    Walk downtown Jackson with its art galleries, gift shops, and great restaurants. Optional white water rafting trip on Snake River. Next Grand Teton National Park, with leisurely boat ride across Jenny Lake, famous for moose. Return hike and drive to Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone.

    Day two is dedicated to the wildlife of Yellowstone National Park, where the densest contiguous North American animal populations exist. Hike at Mammoth Hot Springs, and on the way see buffalo, elk, deer, antelope, coyotes, and possibly eagles, grizzly or black bears, wolves, and more.

    Day three is all about viewing the natural wonders of the landscape. First, hike into Yellowstone River Canyon, close to the Lower Falls, with spectacular views of the falls, river, and canyon. Next, Dunraven Pass drive, perfect for wildlife viewing. Last stop at Norris Geyser Basin.

    Day 8: Learn more about one of the most famous Cowboys in the West's history

    Drive along crystal clear Yellowstone Lake, on our way to Cody. Visit five museums under one roof at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. Night at historic Hotel Irma of Cody.

    Day 9: Mustang and Moose sightings

    Drive into the prairie outside of Cody to find wild mustang horses. Then drive over the Bighorn Mountains, watch for moose weighing up to 600 kilograms (1,300 lbs).

    Days 10-11: Venture into the wild west as we travel to Deadwood

    See volcanic formation Devil’s Tower and prairie dog colonies nearby. Then drive to the Black Hills area, down through Spearfish Canyon with its waterfalls, watching for bald eagles and mountain goats. Highlight of the second day is Black Hills’ Wonderland Cave, a stalactite cave. Take a gold mine tour, then see buffalo herds at Bear Butte State Park, a native spiritual area. Evening walk in a petrified forest near Piedmont.

    Days 12-13: Monumental rock carved faces and gorgeous landscapes

    Sights include two giant rock carvings, the first being Crazy Horse, still under construction by Native Americans, and Mt. Rushmore, a completed sculpting of 4 presidents’ heads. Also see wildlife in gorgeous rocky landscape of Custer State Park. We will stay the night inside of Badlands National Park. Badlands National Park is filled with North American wildlife of all types. With prairies, brightly colored hills, strange rock formations and dry creek beds, this is the perfect last stop for an American nature photography trip. After exploring Badlands N. P. on day two we will stop at Wounded Knee Museum in Wall, South Dakota.

    Day 14: Departure

    Our tour comes to an end. Journey home or continue traveling. We will happily assist you in creating an extended, personal tour.
