    Day 1: Arrive in Jackson.

    (Thu.) Welcome to the “Wild West” town of Jackson, Wyoming. Tonight, be our guest at a special 6:30 pm welcome reception at the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WILDLIFE ART, hosted by your Tour Director. (WR)

    Day 2: Jackson–Yellowstone National Park.

    (Fri.) Begin your day with an included SLEIGH RIDE in Jackson’s National Elk Refuge. Here, as many as 10,000 elk congregate each winter. On occasion, we may be lucky enough to see wolves, eagles, trumpeter swans, and coyotes as well. We then depart for a tour of GRAND TETON and YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARKS, where some of the majestic peaks ascend above 13,000 feet. At Flag Ranch, you will board a Bombardier SNOCOACH and begin the journey through Yellowstone National Park. Highlights include West Thumb Geyser Basin, Lake Yellowstone, the Continental Divide, and Shoshone Point Overlook. Your journey ends at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge for a relaxing 2-night stay. (B,D)

    Day 3: Yellowstone Sightseeing.

    (Sat.) Wake up this morning to the crisp air of Yellowstone in the winter. After breakfast, enjoy a guided WALKING TOUR of the Upper Geyser Basin, the greatest geothermal basin on earth. Here you will view Old Faithful, along with many other geysers in the eruptive state. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Why not participate in a snowshoe excursion or cross-country skiing? Later, relax with a warm drink by the crackling fire. (B,D)

    Day 4: Yellowstone Sightseeing.

    (Sun.) Travel by SNOCOACH today to Mammoth Hot Springs. We’ll make stops to see the famous Fountain Paint Pots as well as Gibbon Falls. At the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone we’ll have our box lunches in a warming hut before proceeding to Upper Falls and thundering Lower Falls, which are nearly twice the height of Niagara. Have your cameras ready, as winter is the perfect time to spot animals such as bison, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, deer, and coyote. We overnight at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, where you can enjoy evening talks, ice skating, and outdoor hot tubs. (B,L,D)

    Day 5: Yellowstone National Park–West Yellowstone.

    (Mon.) This morning, join our excursion to Lamar Valley. This magical place is known to the locals as the Serengeti of Yellowstone, the perfect place for spotting wildlife—especially the gray wolf. We journey to Bozeman before heading south to West Yellowstone, Montana. With your free time this afternoon, why not visit the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center to learn about and gain a better appreciation of the grizzly bear and gray wolf? (B)

    Day 6: West Yellowstone–Jackson.

    (Tue.) After breakfast, board your motorcoach for a journey through Idaho and Utah. On the western side of the Tetons are breathtaking views of the highest peak on the range: Grand Teton itself, which rises to an elevation of 13,777 feet above sea level. Tonight, celebrate your journey with a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

    Day 7: Jackson.

    (Wed.) After a leisurely breakfast, bid farewell to newfound friends as your vacation comes to an end with an included transfer to the airport. (B)

    Day 1: Arrive in Jackson.

    (Sat.) Welcome to the all-Western town of Jackson! Mix and mingle with your Tour Director and traveling companions at tonight’s 6 pm welcome dinner. Board a covered wagon and ride into beautiful Cache Creek Canyon for a CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT and Wild West show. (D)

    Day 2: Snake River Adventure.

    (Sun.) Today, set out on a RIVER ADVENTURE in a comfortable raft that takes you beneath the towering peaks of the Grand Tetons. Your experienced Local Guide will point out the flora and fauna indigenous to the area. The afternoon is free in Jackson to explore the shops and museums of historic downtown. This evening, you may opt to stroll along the downtown boardwalks and enjoy dinner at one of the swing-door saloons. (B)

    Day 3: Journey inside Yellowstone National Park.

    (Mon.) Head north through GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK and on to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, established in 1872 as the world’s first national park. Admire famous Old Faithful Geyser that has been erupting consistently for more than 100 years. Take a scenic drive, stopping at Fountain Paint Pots to see four of the geothermal features: fumaroles, geysers, hot springs, and a bubbling mudpot. Rejoin Grand Loop Road to enjoy photo stops at Yellowstone River’s Lower Falls—almost twice as high as Niagara. (B,D)Note: The routing and areas visited within Yellowstone are subject to favorable weather and/or road conditions. When conditions are unfavorable, the routing may be adjusted accordingly.

    Day 4: Exploration of Yellowstone.

    (Tue.) Time today to explore Yellowstone’s beautiful backcountry. Perhaps stroll along the Firehole River to one of the park’s backcountry geysers, visit remote bubbling mudpots, trek up a mountain pass with breathtaking scenic views, or hike through wildflower-filled meadows along a cool, sparkling creek. Be ready for fun and adventure as you immerse yourself in the natural wonders of Yellowstone’s wilderness. (B,D)

    Day 5: Experience Buffalo Bill Country.

    (Wed.) Near the east exit of the park, watch for wildlife as you leave Yellowstone for Cody, named after dashing Buffalo Bill Cody. This afternoon, visit the BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTER, which interprets the history of the American cowboy, dude ranching, Western conservation, and frontier entrepreneurship. Later this evening we have reserved grandstand tickets at the CODY RODEO for you. In the “Rodeo Capital of the World,” witness America’s original sport with fearless bull riders, high-flying broncs, brawny steer wrestlers, and daredevil rodeo clowns—the action is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! (B)

    Day 6: Explore Little Bighorn Battlefield.

    (Thu.) Enjoy this morning’s scenic drive through the Bighorn Mountains on your way to the LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD. Tour the battlegrounds where Custer was defeated by approximately 7,000 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors, and visit the museum. Continue on to the cattle town of Sheridan. (B,D)

    Day 7: Visit Crazy Horse & Mount Rushmore.

    (Fri.) Journey through the rolling hills of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin and the Black Hills, arriving in South Dakota. See CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, built in honor of the fearless Sioux Indian chief. Afterward, explore MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, which features the monumental likenesses of four U.S. Presidents—Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. Perhaps stroll along the Presidential Trail for more intimate views, or visit the Information Center. Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. (B,D)

    DAY 1 ARRIVE IN SALT LAKE CITY - Welcome to Salt Lake City! You’ll be transferred to your hotel. Meet your Tour Director this afternoon. Meet at 6:00 p.m. for a Kick-off Party at the hotel.

    Day 2

    DAY 2 SALT LAKE CITY / JACKSON - Today your Tour Director will reveal a hidden treasure q! Heading north, skirt the Great Salt Lake and enter Wyoming. Cross the famous Oregon Trail and follow the Snake River to the authentic Old West town of Jackson. Passing through the town’s famous landmark arch of tangled elk antlers, walk back into history as you explore the Town Square with its boardwalks, craft boutiques and ice cream shops all surrounded by the majestic Rockies. Come nightfall enjoy a western-style Chuckwagon Highlight Dinner and Show. (FB,HD)

    Day 3

    DAY 3 JACKSON / GRAND TETON & YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARKS - This morning, as an option, perhaps rollick down the Snake River on a fun and educational wilderness float trip. Later, discover the dramatic Grand Teton National Park and beautiful Jenny Lake, and journey on into America’s first national park, spectacular Yellowstone. This is truly a wonderland of over 10,000 geysers, fumaroles, hot springs, mud pots and steam vents, highlighted with a visit to Old Faithful, which has been spouting steam water every hour for thousands of years. At the Visitor Center, learn amazing facts about Yellowstone and kids can have fun earning their Junior Ranger Badge. (FB,D)

    Day 4

    DAY 4 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK SIGHTSEEING - On a morning Park Ranger-led wildlife walk, search for the more than 60 species of mammals, including bear, elk, bison and moose, as well as 200 species of birds. Later on, discover Yellowstone’s natural wonders, including thundering Yellowstone Falls, hot gushing geysers, brilliantly-colored simmering thermal springs, bubbling mud pools, and hissing steam vents.     Day 5

    DAY 5 YELLOWSTONE / CODY / THE RANCH AT UCROSS - Travel down into the Shoshone Canyon and the rugged Absaroka Mountains until you reach the rustic town of Cody, named after Buffalo Bill Cody. Explore the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and the world’s largest collection of western artifacts. This afternoon, enjoy stunning scenery as you cross the Big Horn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest. Then get ready for a taste of the cowboy lifestyle as you arrive at the Ranch at Ucross in Clearmont, an old-west working dude ranch located in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains. This evening, when the dinner bell calls all hands to chow, put on your finest cowboy duds and kick up your heels at a typical ranch-style Highlight Dinner. End the evening under the stars ‘round a roaring fire with yummy s’mores and campfire stories. (FB,HD)

    Day 6

    DAY 6 THE RANCH AT UCROSS / CRAZY HORSE / KEYSTONE - After a hearty breakfast, enjoy activities galore on the ranch all included! Learn about life on a working ranch. Saddle up for a horseback ride through the sagecovered hills. Challenge your traveling companions to a game of tennis or horseshoes … with bragging rights for the rest of the trip at stake! Or simply relax by the pool. Early afternoon, re-board the motorcoach and head east through the national grassland to the famous Black Hills of South Dakota. At Thunderhead Mountain, gaze in awe at the Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest sculpture. A work in progress, as artisans carve the figure of the famous Lakota warrior out of an entire mountain, it will measure 563 feet high and 641 feet wide when completed! Reach the quaint “City of Gold,” Keystone, once a gold mining boomtown. This evening watch the moving ceremonial lighting at Mount Rushmore. (FB)

    Day 7

    DAY 7 KEYSTONE & BLACK HILLS EXCURSION - Stop in Bear Country USA, a wildlife park featuring the world’s largest private collection of American Black Bears. Enjoy a leisurely drive through this unique park, and then walk through the Wildlife Center, where young and smaller animals frolic in their outdoor exhibits. On to Mount Rushmore National Park. It took 400 artisans 14 years to carve the 60-foot sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt out of the mountain. Next, board the 1880 Train, an authentic steam engine train, from Hill City back to Keystone. At Holy Terror Mini Golf, sign up for a miniature golf tournament! Later, there is time to relax or take a plunge in the hotel
    swimming pool. This evening, join your fellow adventurers at a Farewell Dinner. Toast your Wild West adventures of the past week and share delightful memories that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. (FB,FD)

    Day 8

    DAY 8 KEYSTONE / FORT LARAMIE / DEPART DENVER - Follow the trail to old Fort Laramie, where you can still see 150-year-old wagon wheel ruts cut deep into the soil by thousands of pioneers heading West. At the fort’s living history exhibits, gain a deeper understanding of the harsh and often unforgiving world of the pioneer family as they fought distance, rough terrain and weather to reach Oregon… and the native tribes who gave their lives trying to prevent it. Your Wild West adventure comes to an end in Denver, where stops are made at Denver International Airport and, if you’re extending your stay, at the tour hotel in the heart of downtown Denver.     Day 3

    DAY 3 BRYCE / SALT LAKE CITY - Today your Tour Director will share a hidden treasure. Journey north to Salt Lake City, the capital of the state of Utah. An afternoon orientation tour takes you to historic Temple Square, where you view the Salt Lake Tabernacle, home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Assembly Hall and the Visitor Center. This evening is at leisure; perhaps join an optional dinner at the Lion House, with a visit to Beehive House – office and home of Brigham Young. (FB)

    Day 4

    DAY 4 SALT LAKE CITY / JACKSON - Travel along the Great Salt Lake and across the Oregon Trail, which was the only feasible route west in the 19th century, to Jackson, Wyoming. There is time to wander through this authentic old-western town, framed dramatically by the Grand Tetons to the north. Why not stop for a drink at the Million Dollar Cowboy Saloon? This evening, enjoy a Highlight Dinner at a local restaurant in the town square. (FB,HD)

    Day 5

    DAY 5 JACKSON / GRAND TETON & YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARKS - This morning there is time for an optional guided float trip down the most scenic stretch of the Snake River (seasonal). Then travel through striking Grand Teton National Park on the way to Yellowstone National Park. The beauty of this geothermal wonderland is an amazing sight to behold. Home to an astounding variety of elk and bears, Yellowstone also has one of the few large herds of buffalo still in existence. (FB,D)

    DAY 6 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK SIGHTSEEING - Enjoy a full day tour of Yellowstone National Park. See the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River with the pounding 407-foot Lower Falls, Hayden Valley, Midway Geyser Basin, mud pots, hot pools, fumaroles and geysers.     DAY 7 YELLOWSTONE / CODY / BILLINGS - Make your way to Cody, named after its most famous resident, Buffalo Bill Cody.     DAY 8 BILLINGS / DEADWOOD / RAPID CITY - Your first stop today is at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, site of the infamous Custer’s Last Stand. Here, in June 1876, Custer and his few men faced several thousand Native Americans in battle. Then head into South Dakota where you stop at Deadwood and explore the town aboard a narrated trolley.     DAY 9 BLACK HILLS EXCURSION - The day begins with a journey through the Black Hills. Learn the story behind Mount Rushmore, followed by incredible views of this amazing sculpture depicting four great American Presidents.     DAY 10 RAPID CITY / DENVER - Drive through Black Hills National Forest where Ponderosa Pines, spruce and aspen forests provide a home for a variety of wildlife.     Day 2: SCOTTSDALE - GRAND CANYON

    Today's first stop is in the bohemian colony of Sedona, in the heart of Red Rock Country. Then on through Oak Creek Canyon to one of the natural wonders of the world - Grand Canyon National Park. Don't forget your camera as you embark on a stroll with your Tour Director along the rim to watch the sun set over the canyon walls.     Day 3: GRAND CANYON - LAKE POWELL

    After a morning at leisure at the Grand Canyon, move on to the Historic Cameron Trading Post. The journey carries on through the Painted Desert, a colourful fantasyland of mesas, buttes and badlands, and through the Navajo Indian Reservation. Stop at the Glen Canyon Dam to learn about its impact on the Colorado River before arriving at the lakefront resort. The scenery is breathtaking with towering rock walls rising out of the water.     Day 2: Raft down the Snake River and explore the Grand Tetons

    adventure* down the Snake River. Along the way, your guide will help
    you spot the beavers, eagles, elks and other animals that live in the
    park. Spend some time in the historic town of Jackson and check out
    some of the fun things to do at Jackson Lake Lodge. During your Cowboy Country
    journey, you'll also have a unique chance to work along with fellow
    guests and park experts on a special service project as part of Tauck's

    Day 3: A close-up look inside Yellowstone National Park

    Today you'll travel from the Grand Tetons to America's first and most
    famous national park, spectacular Yellowstone – where your "home away
    from home" for the next two nights is just steps away from the famous
    Old Faithful Geyser! Keep an eye out for Yellowstone's diverse wildlife
    as you explore some of the famous features of the park -- whose
    geologic wonders include two-thirds of all the geysers in the world –
    with your Tauck Director.

    Day 4: Mud pots and more on a perfect Yellowstone vacation day

    Start your day in remarkable Yellowstone with a wildlife-spotting walk;
    endangered species from whooping cranes to gray wolves are protected
    here. See some of the 10,000 hot springs within the park, as well as
    bubbling pools of mud and volcanic calderas with an expert local guide;
    and, a short distance from your lodge, watch mighty Old Faithful shoot
    its plume of steam high into the air just about every hour – a
    highlight of any Yellowstone vacation!

    Day 5: Learn about Buffalo Bill's West and go to a rodeo

    Say goodbye to Yellowstone and head across Wyoming to historic Cody,
    founded by the famous "Buffalo Bill" Cody, from whom the town got its
    name. Glimpse the history, culture and art of the heyday of the
    American West at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, where multiple
    museums each tell a different side of the story. Have a western dinner
    and then thrill to bucking broncos, steer wrestlers, calf ropers and
    barrel riders at a real western rodeo tonight.

    Day 6: Bighorn Mountains and The Ranch at Ucross

    Journey through Wyoming's beautiful Bighorn Mountains today, past deep
    canyons, vast grasslands, and blankets of wildflowers to The Ranch at
    Ucross, a real working ranch, for a memorable overnight stay. Ranch
    experiences include an opportunity to go horseback riding*, fish for
    trout in Piney Creek or a stocked trout pond, swim in the pool, pitch
    some horseshoes or even hunt for frogs! Your time at the ranch is
    certain to be one of the highlights of your Grand Teton and Yellowstone
    vacation; top the night off with an old-fashioned campfire.

    Day 7: A tale of two carvings – Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore

    Depart the ranch and head for the Black Hills of South Dakota. Look up
    in wonder at the Crazy Horse Memorial, where you'll view the work in
    progress as artisans carve the likeness of the famous Lakota warrior
    out of the mountain; when completed, it will be the largest rock
    sculpture in the world. Then it's on to view the towering stone
    portraits of four American presidents at Mount Rushmore, one of the
    must-see landmark sights in the U.S. Join us for a farewell dinner this
    evening, and share delightful memories of your Cowboy Country Grand Teton and Yellowstone vacation.

    Day 1: Rapid City.

    (Sat.) Welcome to Rapid City, gateway to the Black Hills. Join your Tour Director for a 6:30 pm welcome reception this evening. (WR)

    Day 2: Rapid City–Badlands National Park–Custer State Park.

    (Sun.) After breakfast, enjoy an orientation tour of Rapid City, then visit BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK to see some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. Afterward, there’s time to explore Wall Drug, well-known for its quirky roadside signs and free water. Later this afternoon, enjoy a BUFFALO SAFARI and a CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT. (B,D) We overnight at the Historic State Game Lodge in Custer State Park. This gracious stone and wood lodge is set in a beautiful mountain valley, surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest. The State Game Lodge served as the “Summer White House” for President Calvin Coolidge and was visited by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It was built in 1920 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    Day 3: Custer State Park.

    (Mon.) This morning you will travel to Hot Springs to visit the world’s largest MAMMOTH SITE, where scientists are currently excavating remains of woolly mammoths that were trapped and died in the pond more than 26,000 years ago. After a short tour, you’ll have time to stroll the sidewalks of the dig area and see the paleontology laboratory. The remainder of the day is yours to relax in Custer State Park. Perhaps try some fly-fishing, mountain biking, or take a nature walk. (B,D)

    Day 4: Custer State Park–Deadwood.

    (Tue.) Today, visit two of the world’s largest stone monuments: MOUNT RUSHMORE and CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL. At Mount Rushmore, the solid granite faces of four presidents loom more than a thousand feet overhead. We then continue to the Old West town of Deadwood, where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are laid to rest on Boot Hill. Overnight at picturesque Spearfish Canyon Lodge. (B,D)

    Day 5: Deadwood–U-Cross Ranch–Cody.

    (Wed.) This morning, drive through scenic Spearfish Canyon and across the grassy plains of Wyoming. Enjoy lunch at an authentic WESTERN RANCH, where you can try your hand at fly-fishing, horseback riding, or take a dip in the pool. Next, we cross the Bighorn Mountains via Shell Creek Canyon to Buffalo Bill’s Wild West town of Cody, Wyoming. (B,L)

    (Thu.) Enjoy a leisurely visit to the BUFFALO BILL HISTORIC CENTER, a fascinating tribute to frontier America. Later, depart for YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, America’s first national park, where wild animals roam freely in vast meadows and forest. Tonight, stay at the majestic Lake Yellowstone Hotel. Restored in 1990, the Lake Yellowstone Hotel is reminiscent of the 1920s with sweeping views of America’s largest mountain lake.     Day 7: Yellowstone National Park.

On today’s tour you will see Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon with its Upper and Lower Falls, watch for herds of bison in Hayden Valley, and view many of Yellowstone’s geothermal sites, including Old Faithful Geyser.     Day 8: Yellowstone National Park–Grand Teton National Park–Jackson.
