    Day 1: San Antonio.

    Welcome to San Antonio, a river city full of cultural heritage. This evening, meet your traveling companions and Tour Director at a 6 pm welcome reception. (WR)

    Day 2: San Antonio.

    San Antonio has always been a crossroads and a meeting place. This morning’s city tour features historic sites such as Market Square, Mission San Jose, and the ALAMO—the most famous landmark in Texas, where Davy Crockett died during the valiant attempt to hold off the Mexican army. This afternoon there will be time to explore one of San Antonio’s jewels, the “River Walk,” stretching approximately two-and-a-half miles and peppered with sidewalk cafés, boutiques, and restaurants. This evening, enjoy a CRUISE along the festively illuminated River Walk before dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

    Day 3: San Antonio. Day at a Dude Ranch.

    Today, head to Bandera, “Cowboy Capital of the World,” and visit SILVER SPUR GUEST RANCH. Learn about life on the ranch from a Texas cowboy; take a hayride to feed the longhorn; and enjoy a trick roping performance and perhaps even try your hand at roping! For lunch, get your first taste of the delicious food served at the ranch—from Texas-style brisket, BBQ chicken and beef, chicken-fried steak, rope sausage, and all the fixins! (B,L)

    Day 4: San Antonio. Excursion to Hill Country.

    Journey to Stonewall, Texas, where you will learn about the life and legacy of the 36th president, Lyndon B. Johnson, on a tour of the Texas White House, also known as the LBJ RANCH. Next, visit BECKER VINEYARDS, one of the most respected winemakers in the area, for a tour and tasting of Texas’ vintages. Your final stop today is Luckenbach, made famous by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Time to explore this Western town and its 1849 General Store before returning to San Antonio. This evening your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Wonderful conversation and cuisine make the perfect finale for your vacation. (B,D)

    Days 1-2: New York Area & Washington DC

    First stop, the capital calls. Washington DC is the perfect introduction to the social, cultural and political history of the United States. Explore the best of America's Capitol - from the Smithsonian Museum to the Lincoln Memorial on the guided night time illumination tour. During the day the city is awash with greenery so once you're done with sightseeing, go people watching in the parks. Why not take advantage of the great nightlife in Georgetown!

    Days 3-4: Virginia & Tennessee

    From polished stone monuments to rocky paths, the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia put on a great glimpse of the rugged outdoors. In Tennessee, choose to don a lifejacket, grip a paddle and bounce along a churning stretch of white water on our optional rafting trip. Hey, we did say fast and furious!

    Day 5: Alabama/Mississippi

    Next, travel into the 'Deep South' to Alabama and Mississippi for a taste of true southern hospitality. License plates proclaim you're in the 'Heart of Dixie', as the radio pumps out a
    hatful of country tunes to back this up.

    Days 6-7: New Orleans

    Beyond Mississippi we hit Louisiana, home of the Big Easy & Bourbon Street. Now we're talking all that jazz! We head into the enchanting French Quarter of New Orleans and hear the real deal at Preservation Hall, echoing with chirpy trumpet and smooth sax. Sample a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's! New Orleans has more than just food, drink and music to offer. Do the Huckleberry Finn thing as you chug along the Mississippi River.

    Day 8: Louisiana/Texas

    Look for gators on our optional Louisiana swamp tour through the mysterious bayous of Cajun country (a must do!). The Lone Star bids you a big-hearted welcome for four nights in the mighty Texas. None of the other 47 continental states is bigger; come to think of it, everything seems vast in this pancake-flat expanse.

    Days 9-10: San Antonio

    Don your Davy Crockett hat and check out the Alamo, symbol of Texan pride and independence from Mexico. Or stroll the Paseo del Rio. If your Spanish is shaky, that's the cobbled 'river walk', bursting with greenery, cafés and boutiques.

    Days 11-12: Texas & Carlsbad Caverns National Park

    The biggest state of the continental USA is also home to plenty of Mexican-American cuisine, "Tex-Mex", including spicy fajitas and tacos could be on the menu tonight. Do you know your stalactite from your stalagmite? Carlsbad Caverns boasts over 100 limestone caves sporting glinting minerals and telling names like the Hall of the White Giant and Green Lake Room.

    Day 13: Arizona / Roswell, New Mexico

    After a visit to the famous Roswell's UFO Museum, pitch your tents together and chew the fat long into the night. What are those lights in the sky?

    Day 14: Monument Valley

    Venturing into the desert southwest, we hit the iconic Monument Valley used in Hollywood scenes from Westerns to 2001: A Space Odyssey and everything in between. Get jeep-bound and flit between towering buttes and massive mesas. This is sacred Navajo land; take home their secrets, legends and the odd handcrafted keepsake. Tonight, experience a stunning sunset overlooking the valley.

    Days 15-16: Grand Canyon National Park

    No trip west is complete without a stop at the Grand Canyon and we have a full day tomorrow to experience the grandeur of Earth's natural wonder. Pack your best boots and don't forget your camera for a sunrise/sunset hike along the rim. For the more ambitious take the long hike down Bright Angel Trail to Plateau Point, or choose the "bird's eye" view on a scenic flight. Watching the sinking sun paint it amber, maroon and red, its breathtaking immensity still blows you away.

    Days 17-18: Lake Powell & Zion National Park

    Swim the deep blue waters of Lake Powell, formerly the great Glenn Canyon, or just sit back on the shore and soak up the powerful rays of this beautiful and surreal man-made desert oasis. Then onwards to Zion National Park. Explore the hidden canyons or maybe hike to Angels Landing. Okay, so getting up there can be devilish at times, but the famous trail puts Zion on a 360-degree display of this magnificent national park

    Days 19-20: Las Vegas

    With a sudden burst of neon, Vegas is right in your face - the greatest show on earth. Watch out though - some dub this place 'Lost Wages'! Why not cruise "The Strip" in a super-stretch limo, indulge in an all-you-can eat buffet, take in a show or just watch the amazing crowds, neon signs and attractions that many hotel casinos have to offer. And if that's not enough, take a helicopter flight back down The Strip or just gamble the night away in one of the world class casinos.

    Day 21: Los Angeles

    Journey across the desert and catch some California sun as you roll into the larger than life LA scene. Why not hang out at and people watch at Venice Beach tonight?

    A quick tour of Hollywood before skirting the awesome shoreline, as the highway snakes north beside the heaving ocean swell. Further along the Pacific Highway, splash the cash in Monterrey or stroll the coast around this seriously scenic peninsula.

    Days 24-25: San Francisco

    San Francisco is next, "Everybody's Favourite City". Enjoy a full day to explore the city with plenty of time for shopping in China Town & Union Square, sightseeing and a stroll over the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe take a cruise on the bay for an unforgettable sunset, then go bar hopping 'til the tiny hours. Mission, Marina or Haight-Ashbury Districts usually check the right boxes.

    Days 26-27: Yosemite National Park

    Heading through Central California we take a scenic drive into the Yosemite National Park region and a chance to hike or bike through the extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths and spectacular waterfalls. Hike to Yosemite Falls, one of North America's highest, and capture El Capitan's great granite profile on camera. Keep your eyes peeled for the chance to view the park's abundant wildlife.

    Days 28-29: Lake Tahoe & Idaho/Nevada

    Set sail at Lake Tahoe on an optional sunset cruise or play the house in one of the flash casinos - though a gentle pedal boat ride, scenic parasailing or an energising jet-ski, may just as easily push your buttons. Now your posse heads across a heap more widescreen scenery as you edge westward through Idaho & Nevada.

    Days 30-31: Jackson

    Feel the old frontier spirit alive and kicking in the truly western town of Jackson, Wyoming. Fresh from conquering the Snake River rapids, one of America's last great untamed rivers, on an optional whitewater rafting trip, corral your posse into the nearest watering hole. Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a fine tip, with saddles for stools and trophy cow horns above the counter.

    Days 32-33: Yellowstone National Park

    Pitch up in the world's first National Park, Yellowstone. This is a superb wilderness of spouting geysers, waterfalls and simmering mud pools. A-grade American stars grace the trails - keep your eyes peeled for this abundant wildlife. Large herds of bison and elk roam the park and if you're lucky, you may even see bear or wolf.

    Day 34: Cody

    Next, it's Wild Wyoming, the heart of cowboy country, This is what Cody is all about. From its cowboy roots to its summer rodeos, shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head!

    Day 35: Sioux Indian Lands

    Yep, we're talking Mount Rushmore and the uniquely sculptured faces of our four greatest Presidents Close by, another rock-carved epic is shaping up: the Crazy Horse monument, a nod to the famed Lakota Indian war leader, very impressive!

    Days 36-37: Badlands National Park & South Dakota

    Never mind the "bad lands", touching down here feels like a moon landing. Low-slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw-tooth ridges have a bizarre lunar quality as you swap some photos. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle back for some shut-eye under canvas.

    Days 38-39: Chicago

    Our next stop is Chicago - the "Windy City", home to some of the greatest blues music in America. Soar up Willis Tower for dizzying views over the Windy City. Trawl the upmarket malls of Magnificent Mile and grab a slice of Chicago's deep-dish pizza before peddling on the included famous "Bobby's Bike Hike" tour.

    Day 40: Ohio

    Ask a "Buckeye" to tell you all about their state nut or how cool they think Cedar Point Amusement Park's rollercoasters are! Ride the Millenium Force - the greatest roller coaster in the world!

    From the edge of Lake Ontario, the sensation of crashing water is stupendous, the noise immense, at America's greatest national attractions, Niagara Falls. Wait 'til you're down on the water aboard 'Maid of the Mist', where the cascades pound, churn and foam right before your eyes. That's what you call a front row seat!

    Day 42: New York Area

    We roll into the New York Area and the end of our awesome Grand Trek! This tour is not scheduled to spend any time in New York City so make sure you book extra hotel nights and explore the sights and sounds of the Big Apple on your own. Splurge along Fifth Ave, hit the top of the Empire State Building, or soak up the trendy, laidback vibe of Greenwich Village before heading home.

    Days 9-10: Carlsbad Caverns National Park & Texas

    Head out of the largest State into New Mexico and Carlsbad Caverns National Park to explore one of the largest cave systems in the World. Welcome to the Lone Star State, next otherwise known as the great state of Texas, the birthplace of Buddy Holly and the world's largest cotton growing region.

    Day 1

    DAY 1 DEPART USA* - Overnight flight to Cairo.

    Day 2

    DAY 2 ARRIVE IN CAIRO, EGYPT - Brendan meets you on your arrival at Cairo Airport and transfers you to your hotel. The remainder of your day is at leisure to discover the amazing contrasts of ancient and modern Egypt.

    Day 3

    DAY 3 CAIRO / LUXOR / NILE CRUISE - A morning flight from Cairo to Luxor on the River Nile. On arrival, the rest of the morning is free before we board our luxury cruise ship for lunch. Later, we visit the grand Temple of Luxor which dominates the town and also the gigantic temple complex at Karnak. Explore the mighty Temple of Amun with its mass of obelisks, pylons, colossi and courts. Plus marvel at the remains of the amazing Avenue of the Sphinxes, which once stretched between the Temples of Karnak and Luxor. Later, we return to our cruise ship for dinner. (BB,L,D)

    DAY 4 NILE CRUISE: LUXOR / EDFU - Today’s highlight is a visit to the Valley of the Kings. Secluded in the Theban Hills, it is where the New Kingdom pharaohs were buried in dramatically shafted tombs built into the hillsides. Next we visit the Temple of Medinet Habou and on to the breathtaking Deir el-Bahri, Queen Hatshepsut’s impressive temple. Later, we return to the ship and sail for Edfu. (B,L,D)

    Day 5

    DAY 5 NILE CRUISE: EDFU / KOM OMBO - This morning we visit Edfu to see Egypt’s best-preserved cult temple, which was dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Then we continue our tranquil cruise along the Nile arriving at Kom Ombo. Why not relax on deck and watch primitive villages on the banks of the river glide by? They have changed little in a thousand years. Tonight we don traditional Egyptian galabias for a fun-filled Egyptian Dinner and Galabia Party. (B,L,D)

    Day 6

    DAY 6 NILE CRUISE: KOM OMBO / ASWAN - We visit the roofless Temple of Kom Ombo, which was built for the falcon and crocodile gods. From here we cruise to Aswan to take a memorable felucca ride across the Nile to visit the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener’s Island. The felucca is the traditional craft of Egyptians who have sailed in them down the centuries. An amazing sight is a blood-red sunset, commonplace in Aswan, with the distinctive sails of dozens of feluccas silhouetted against the setting sun. (B,L,D)

    Day 7

    DAY 7 DISEMBARK SHIP: ASWAN / CAIRO - We disembark to explore the High Dam. Then we visit the Temple of Isis on the Island of Philae and the massive Unfinished Obelisk.
    Afterwards, there is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take an optional excursion to the mighty Sun Temple of Abu Simbel, flanked by four giant stone statues of Ramses II. The temple was reclaimed from the dam and reconstructed in its present and unforgettable location. Finally, we transfer to the airport for the return flight to Cairo. (BB)

    Day 8

    DAY 8 CAIRO SIGHTSEEING - Today we enjoy a full day of sightseeing which will include the Citadel, the spectacular complex dominating Cairo’s skyline. From here we make a visit to the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Mohammed Ali’s Alabaster Mosque with its highly decorated and ornate interior. In old Cairo we will visit the Hanging Church of St. Mary above the old water gate. Also we will visit the Egyptian Museum, home of King Tutankhamun’s priceless treasures, discovered by Howard Carter in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. This evening, there is time on your own to do as you please. You may wish to visit the Sound and Light show at the Pyramids. (BB)

    Day 9

    DAY 9 PYRAMIDS EXCURSION - Today is full of amazing highlights. First we will drive to Memphis where we see the limestone Colossus of Ramses II and the giant Alabaster Sphinx. Next we continue to Sakkara where the Step Pyramid heralded the start of the pyramid age. Then on to marvel at one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the Sphinx, which casts its enigmatic gaze across the sands of the desert. Your evening is at leisure. (BB)

    DAY 10 CAIRO AT LEISURE - Time to relax or maybe to visit the bazaar for some last minute shopping. (BB)

    DAY 11 DEPART CAIRO - Time to bid farewell to Egypt as your vacation comes to an end. (BB)

    DAY 2 PHOENIX / TUCSON / SAN CARLOS - Depart for Mexico, stopping in Tucson for travelers joining here. Cross the border into the Sonoran Desert. After a lunch break in the small town of Santa Ana, continue on through the modern city of Hermosillo. Arrive in the seaside resort of San Carlos, where the desert meets the Sea of Cortez. Relax at your oceanfront resort on the white sands of Algodones Beach. Gather tonight for a Welcome Reception before dinner. (B,L,D)

    Day 3

    DAY 3 SAN CARLOS / SEA OF CORTEZ CRUISE / ALAMOS - Visit a cactus garden and learn more about these remarkable plants. Then board a private boat for a scenic cruise on the Sea of Cortez. After lunch at a waterfront restaurant, travel south to the colonial city of Alamos. Designated as a National Historic Monument, the city's cobblestone streets are lined with charming Colonial and Spanish buildings. During the day, your Tour Director will reveal a hidden treasure.     DAY 5 EL FUERTE / COPPER CANYON / POSADA BARRANCAS - Board a private rail car on the "Train Ride in the Sky." Travel from sea level to 7,500 feet in less than 150 miles, passing through tunnels and over bridges. The journey takes you along the precipitous Septentrion and Urique Canyons into the heart of Copper Canyon, more than four times as large as the Grand Canyon. Disembark in Posada Barrancas and check in at the castle-like Mansion Tarahumara hotel. (B,L,D)

    DAY 6 COPPER CANYON SIGHTSEEING - Spend the entire day exploring this dramatic area.     Day 1: Arrival in Tucson, Arizona.

    Welcome to Tucson! At 7 pm, meet your traveling companions at the welcome reception hosted by your Tour Director. (WR)

    Day 2: Tucson–Tombstone–Nuevo Casas Grandes, Mexico.

    This morning, journey south for a stop at Tombstone, “The Town Too Tough to Die,” where you’ll have time to visit the OK Corral and wander the streets of this historic town. Afterward, we cross into Mexico at the border towns of Douglas and Agua Prieta. Then, continue to the fertile valley of Casas Grandes. Spend the night in the town of Nuevo Casas Grandes. (B,D)

    Day 3: Nuevo Casas Grandes–Chihuahua.

    During the 13th and 14th centuries, pottery was once the principal ware of trade, and this morning includes a visit to a local POTTERY STUDIO. See how the traditional hand-forming and painting methods are still used today. Next, visit PAQUIME, the most important archaeological site in northern Mexico. Once an important trading center, it combines elements of the Pueblo Indian civilization from the southwestern United States with Mesoamerican influences. Continue on to explore Chihuahua, made famous by Mexican revolutionary leader Pancho Villa. Dinner this evening is at your hotel. (B,D)

    Day 4: Chihuahua–Creel.

    This morning, visit the ornate 18th-century CATHEDRAL, the GOVERNMENT PALACE with its unique murals, and the former HOME OF PANCHO VILLA, converted by his widow into a museum. Head west to Cuauhtémoc, the center of Mexico’s Mennonite population, where you’ll enjoy a traditional homemade Mennonite lunch. Then, travel through pine forests to the lumber town of Creel, situated at an elevation of 7,500 feet in the Sierra Tarahumara mountain range. There’s time this afternoon and evening to explore this quaint town and shop for local wares. (B,L)

    Day 5: Creel–Divisadero.

    After breakfast, drive through the VALLEY OF THE MUSHROOMS with its strange monolithic formations. See the CAVE DWELLINGS of the Tarahumara Indians, famed for their colorful tribal customs and prowess as long-distance runners. Afterward, it’s a special visit to a local kindergarten and elementary school to learn more about the children and their culture in this remote area of the world. Depart for Divisadero and catch your first views of the spectacular Copper Canyon. Enjoy a visit to PIEDRA VOLADA, a giant rock miraculously perched on the edge of a precipice. Tonight, savor the sunset as it colors the canyon walls and leaves you with some remarkable memories and photos. (B,L,D)

    Day 6: Divisadero–Copper Canyon Train–El Fuerte.

    This morning, relax and enjoy the solitude and beauty of Copper Canyon. You may choose to join an optional hiking trip along the rim or perhaps an optional horseback riding excursion. After lunch, embark on your rail adventure through El Cañon de Cobre. Experience some of North America’s most magnificent scenery as your TRAIN winds its way along the rim of steep chasms, descends mountain passes reaching 7,000 feet, and crosses canyons and rivers. Dinner this evening will be at your hotel. (B,L,D)

    Day 7: El Fuerte–San Carlos.

    For three centuries El Fuerte has been an important commercial and agricultural center. We’ll start the day off with a short walking tour of this picturesque colonial city and see the plaza, city hall, and colorful market place. Then, head north along the Sea of Cortez, reaching the resort of San Carlos by late afternoon. Just a short drive from the old port of Guaymas, the Bay of San Carlos is rich with fish and seabirds, and its many beaches attract visitors from around the world. The remainder of the day is yours to relax on the beach, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy a cool drink while watching the swaying palm trees. (B)

    Day 8: San Carlos.

    Today is at leisure. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the beach, take an optional fishing excursion, or join us on an optional boat ride on the pristine waters of San Carlos Bay. While keeping an eye out for dolphins and other marine life, enjoy complimentary margaritas, soft drinks, and snacks. Tonight, a farewell dinner celebrates your Copper Canyon adventure. (B,D)

    Day 9: San Carlos–Tucson, Arizona.

    Heading south, we stop in Tucson for passengers joining the tour. Crossing the border into Mexico, we travel into the Sonoran Desert, stopping in the small town of Santa Ana for lunch. From here, we journey to Hermosillo, where we view the cathedral and murals at the Government Palace. We arrive in time for sunset at our beachfront resort in San Carlos. The journey takes us along the precipitous Septentrion and Urique Canyons into the heart of Copper Canyon, over four times as large as America's Grand Canyon.     We journey across the Texas plains and head into the cowboy town of Amarillo for a night of real Texan culture.

    Explore the exotic mix of Native American and Hispanic cultures in artistic Santa Fe before we arrive in Albuquerque.

    Day 8

    Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, Durango provides an absolute paradise for adventure seekers before continuing on to Cortez.

From here we cruise to Aswan to take a memorable felucca ride across the Nile to see the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener’s Island. The felucca is the traditional watercraft of Egyptians, who have sailed in them down the centuries. (B,L,D)

    Day 7

    DAY 7 DISEMBARK SHIP: ASWAN / CAIRO - We disembark to explore the High Dam. Then visit the Temple of Isis on the Island of Philae and the massive Unfinished Obelisk. Afterwards, there is an opportunity to take an optional excursion to the mighty Sun Temple of Abu Simbel. The temple was reclaimed from the dam and reconstructed in its present location. Finally, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Cairo. (B)

    Day 8

    DAY 8 CAIRO SIGHTSEEING - Today we enjoy a full day of sightseeing which will include the Citadel, the spectacular complex dominating Cairo’s skyline. From here we make a visit to the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Mohammed Ali’s Alabaster Mosque with its ornate interior. In old Cairo we will visit the Hanging Church of St. Mary above the old water gate. Also we will visit the Egyptian Museum, home of King Tutankhamun’s priceless treasures. (BB)

    Day 9

    DAY 9 PYRAMIDS EXCURSION - Drive to Memphis where we see the limestone Colossus of Ramses II and the giant Alabaster Sphinx. Next we continue to Sakkara where the Step Pyramid heralded the start of the pyramid age. From here prepare for a breathtaking experience, as we marvel at one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and the Sphinx, which casts its enigmatic gaze across the sands of the desert. Your evening is at leisure. (BB)

    DAY 10 CAIRO AT LEISURE - A free day to sightsee, shop or relax. (BB)

    Day 11

    DAY 11 DEPART CAIRO - Bid farewell to Egypt as your vacation comes to an end. Airport transfers are available, conditions apply. (BB)
