    Start your day with an introduction to the “Story of Texas” during a visit to the interactive Bob Bullock Texas History Museum. Next, visit the stunning Texas State Capital building. Dating back to 1888, this historic landmark is a marvel in history and architecture. The afternoon is at leisure to explore this great city.

    Day 3: Austin - Stonewall - Fredericksburg - San Antonio

    Travel into Texas hill country for a visit to the iconic LBJ Ranch, birthplace of the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. During your tour of the ranch you will visit the “Texas White House.” Then, discover the beauty of hill country in the German settlement town of Fredericksburg. Enjoy free time to explore the German-inspired shops and bakeries before visiting a local chocolate factory for a demonstration and tasting. En route to San Antonio, experience an introduction to Texas wines during a visit to a local historic winery for a tour and tasting.

    Your day begins with a fascinating tour of San Antonio. History and culture abound with visits to the Mission San Jose, the second mission established by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesus, and the King William District, established when a large number of Germans immigrated to Texas and settled in the vicinity of San Antonio during the 1800s. This is followed by the Alamo which played a critical role in the Texas Revolution. People worldwide continue to remember the Alamo as a heroic struggle against impossible odds — a place where men made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Experience the flavors of true Tex-Mex cuisine as you learn the art of cooking this regional favorite and making the perfect Margarita - then enjoy your creations! Later, cruise along the Paseo del Rio, also known as the Riverwalk, one of Texas’s most prized attractions.

    Day 5: San Antonio - Bandera - San Antonio

    Today you will journey into cowboy country to spend a day in Bandera, “Cowboy Capital of the World,” at a working dude ranch. Meet a wrangler who will teach you the ways of roping and saddling during an interactive demonstration. Then enjoy a traditional cowboy lunch in the pasture followed by a hayride to view the wildlife on the ranch. You even have a chance to feed the local longhorns. This afternoon you’re invited to the cowboy saloon to learn the tricks of Texas hold ‘em before enjoying a home-style Texan dinner. The evening is complete with a campfire and storytelling from one of the acclaimed local cowboys.

    Day 6: San Antonio - Fort Worth

    Journey through the heart of the Lone Star State en route to the city of Fort Worth, one of Texas’s largest cities and the thriving center of culture and commerce, and your home for the next three nights.

    Day 7: Fort Worth - Grapevine - Fort Worth

    Travel this morning to the historic community of Grapevine. Enjoy a wine tasting at a local winery before boarding the historic Grapevine Vintage Railroad*. Journey along the historic Cotton Belt Route aboard authentic Victorian-style coaches, preserved as they were in the days of the expanding West. Your train journey ends in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards where you will enjoy a tour of the historic stockyards complete with a visit to Billy Bob’s, “The World’s Largest Honky Tonk,” and one of the iconic establishments of the area. This evening is sure to be unforgettable as you experience bull riding, roping, barrel racing and more at the Stockyards Championship Rodeo!

    Day 8: Fort Worth - Dallas - Fort Worth

    Explore Dallas today, including visits to Dealey Plaza, the Kennedy Memorial and the famous Sixth Floor Museum, whose exhibits examine the life, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. You will also visit Pioneer Plaza and the arts district of Dallas. Enjoy free time for shopping in the historic West End before gathering for a spectacular farewell dinner at a wonderful local restaurant.

    Your day begins with a fascinating tour of San Antonio.     Day 3: San Antonio - Stonewall - Fredericksburg - Bandera - San Antonio

    This morning you travel to Stonewall to enjoy a tour of the LBJ Ranch, birthplace of the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson. On your tour of the ranch you will view the “Texas White House” and learn about living in the Texas “hill country.” Later, journey to the heart of hill country to the German settlement of Fredericksburg where you will have time to independently explore the German influence in the form of bakeries, restaurants and stores. Continue to the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” Bandera, for a traditional Texas cowboy BBQ and rootin’ tootin’ entertainment at an authentic dude ranch.

    Day 4: San Antonio

    Your morning is at leisure to discover more of San Antonio. Take a streetcar to many of the downtown attractions or enjoy some shopping at the Rivercenter Mall. This afternoon, visit the Institute of Texan Cultures*, San Antonio’s cultural experience museum dedicated to enhancing the understanding of cultural history and its influence upon the people of Texas. Then, you’ll visit the San Antonio Shoe (SAS) factory and see where these famous shoes are made right before your eyes!     Day 2: San Antonio

    . (Fri.) San Antonio has always been a crossroads and a meeting place. This morning’s city tour features historic sites such as Market Square, Mission San Jose, and the ALAMO—the most famous landmark in Texas, where Davy Crockett and Sam Houston died during the valiant attempt to hold off the Mexican army. This afternoon there will be time to explore one of San Antonio’s jewels, the “River Walk,” stretching approximately two-and-a-half miles and peppered with sidewalk cafés, boutiques, and restaurants. This evening, enjoy a CRUISE along the River Walk before dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

    Day 3: San Antonio. Day at a Dude Ranch

    . (Sat.) Today, head to Bandera, “Cowboy Capital of the World,” and visit SILVER SPUR GUEST RANCH. Learn about life on the ranch from a Texas cowboy; take a hayride to feed the longhorn; and enjoy a trick roping performance and perhaps even try your hand at roping! For lunch, get your first taste of the delicious food served at the ranch—from Texas-style brisket, BBQ chicken and beef, chicken-fried steak, rope sausage, and all the fixins! (B,L)

    Day 4: San Antonio. Excursion to Hill Country

    . (Sun.) Journey to Stonewall, Texas, where you will learn about the life and legacy of the 36th president, Lyndon B. Johnson, on a tour of the Texas White House, also known as the LBJ RANCH. Next, visit BECKER VINEYARDS, one of the most respected winemakers in the area, for a tour and tasting of Texas’ vintages. Your final stop today is Luckenbach, made famous by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Time to explore this Western town and its 1849 General Store before returning to San Antonio. This evening your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Wonderful conversation and cuisine make the perfect finale for your vacation. (B,D)

This evening enjoy a New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner Dance with live entertainment and a champagne toast to the New Year.

    Day 5: Grapevine - Fort Worth - Grapevine

    Happy New Year! This morning enjoy free time in the quaint village of Grapevine and visit the Cross Timbers Winery, which is located in the historic Dorris/Brock family farm house. This home has been recognized as one of the oldest structures in Grapevine. Learn how they make their unique wines, followed by a wine tasting. This afternoon board the historic Grapevine Vintage Railroad and ride along the Cotton Belt Route, arriving at the famous Fort Worth Stockyards! This national historic landmark was the hub of the cattle trade and is now one of Texas’ most popular destinations! Tonight, enjoy a true Texas-style farewell dinner at a dude ranch and celebrate the end of a great vacation!

    Day 1: Houston

    Welcome to Texas! This evening we’ll have a private reception at the hotel. You’ll meet your traveling companions and your tour director. Welcome Reception included.

    Day 2: Burton/Austin

    After breakfast, we’ll head to the town of Brenham to visit the Monastery of St. Claire Miniature Horse Farm. Friendly people and fun animals make this the perfect start to our tour. Then we’ll visit the famous Blue Bell Creamery, whose ice cream Time magazine called “the best in the world.”

    Next we’ll go where, being true Texans, they have more horse ranches than any other county in the United States. The Caloudas family will welcome us at their Nueces Canyon Equestrian Center for an exclusive tour and home-cooked meal.

    Then it’s off to the Burton Cotton Gin, where our local hosts will share the history of the cotton industry and the story of the dedicated volunteers who helped preserve this Texas landmark. Meals included: B, L.

    Day 3: Fredericksburg/Kerrville

    This morning we’ll visit the Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch. You’ll love the rolling hills and pastureland that LBJ roamed before becoming President of the United States.

    We’ll continue on to Fredericksburg, a German community complete with half-timbered houses. You’re free to stroll Main Street to explore the numerous shops. If you’re a WWII history buff, the National Museum of the Pacific War is a must-see!

    This afternoon we’ll ride into Hill Country and meet Dwight Harkey, who will share the area’s history. We’ll drive along the back roads to the tiny town of Mountain Home, population 96. It’s the home of a Texas landmark—the century-old, 40,000-acre Y.O. Ranch. We’ll meet some of the ranch hands who manage the world’s largest herd of registered Longhorns and North America’s largest collection of exotic animals—zebras, gazelles and more. We’ll join the cowboys for a ranch-style dinner. Meals included: B, D.

    Day 4: San Antonio

    Start this morning with a tour of Love Creek Orchards, pioneers of the Texas apple industry. No more than six feet tall, the trees don’t need much water, and the fruit is delicious.

    Our next stop is exciting San Antonio, the “cradle of Texas liberty.” We’ll have a delicious lunch overlooking the scenic River Walk. Later we’ll experience a spectacular view of the city with a water taxi ride on the river itself.

    Back on land, we’ll visit Texas’ most famous shrine—the Alamo. We’ll walk in the footsteps of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and other valiant men who will live in Texans’ memories forever. Meals included: B, L.

    Day 5: King Ranch/Corpus Christi

    Peanuts are a major crop in Texas, so we’ll tour the Wilco Peanut Company, an efficient operation that shells 25,000 tons of peanuts a year.

    Our next stop is big, even for Texas. With over 850,000 acres, the King Ranch is one of the largest working ranches in the U.S. Our first stop will be a Texas-style barbeque lunch at a rustic camp house that was once used at chow time by cowboys herding cattle. We’ll continue the afternoon with an exclusive tour and explanation of the history and the modern-day workings of the ranch.

    Then we’ll head down the trail to the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi, where we’ll spend the night. Meals included: B, L.

    Day 6: Corpus Christi/Lake Jackson

    After a hearty breakfast, we tour the legendary aircraft carrier USS Lexington. Those would-be “top guns” in our group can feel the excitement of a jet fighter in action in the flight simulator, if they wish.

    We’ll have a change of scenery as we travel along the Texas Gulf Coast through the fishing towns that populate these pristine bays. See the sand dunes all along the way to the “City of Enchantment”—Lake Jackson, where we’ll spend our last night. Meals included: B, L.

    Day 7: Galveston/Houston

    This morning we’ll drive along the intracoastal waterway to the bustling port and tourist center of Galveston. We’ll hop aboard the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum and experience day-to-day life on a working offshore rig and learn the “lingo” of the oil industry.

    After this exciting week of traveling, we’ll enjoy a final lunch together and say farewell to the Lone Star State! Meals included: B, L.

    Day 1: Arrive Tucson, Arizona - Tour Begins

    Enjoy a welcome dinner where you will meet your fellow travelers.

    Day 2: Tucson - San Carlos, Mexico

    Learn about the significance of the majestic Mission of San Xavier del Bac, the “white dove of the desert.” Cross the Mexican border near the city of Nogales where you’ll learn about local crafts fashioned from ironwood, a tree found in the Sonora Desert. Before leaving, a carving demonstration shows how the crafts are made. Continue through the Sonora Desert to the Sea of Cortez. Relax at your hotel and enjoy the view overlooking the beautiful San Carlos Marina. Unwind after a rich day of sightseeing complete with a short lesson on the local language in San Carlos, where the desert meets the ocean.

    Day 3: San Carlos

    With a day at leisure, explore San Carlos! Stroll along its beautiful sand beaches or perhaps join an optional nature cruise on the Sea of Cortez to spot dolphins and blue-footed boobies.

    Day 4: San Carlos - El Fuerte

    Visit a working pearl farm and learn the history of the valuable pearls discovered in the Sea of Cortez. A demonstration on the process of cultured pearl production explains the ongoing efforts to replenish the gulf with these once plentiful species. Step back in time when you visit the beautiful colonial city of El Fuerte. This colorful settlement, founded by the Spaniards in 1564, sits gracefully in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Explore the courtyards and gardens of your historic hacienda hotel, hailed as the birthplace of the legendary Zorro. Before dinner, get a taste for the local flavor at a lively folkloric show.

    Day 5: El Fuerte - Copper Canyon

    Today travel first-class on the Chihuahua-Pacifico Railroad for a journey from sea level to nearly 8,000 feet via tunnels and bridges. The result: awe-inspiring, unspoiled landscapes past thrilling gorges and expansive canyon lands. Discover incredible portions of the 25,000 square miles of canyon. Your hotel for the next two nights rests on the rim of the canyon.

    Day 6: Copper Canyon

    Experience the Tarahumara culture when tribal members perform for you. See their traditional dance, games and a foot race demonstration. Embark on a tour of Divisadero; visit the small church and the balancing rock at the canyon's edge. Behold spectacular views of the canyon from different locations learning about this amazing area. Enjoy leisure time to explore this region. Before dinner, learn about corn’s cultural significance during a tortilla-making demonstration.

    Day 7: Copper Canyon - Creel - Chihuahua

    A scenic trip through the canyon brings you to Creel, one of the largest towns in the Copper Canyon sitting 7,874 feet above sea level. Browse local shops for souvenirs. Later, visit the Mennonite Museum near Cuahtemoc and enjoy a homemade lunch while learning about the history of this German-speaking culture. Then, continue to Chihuahua, the wealthiest state in Mexico that played a pivotal role in the Mexican Revolution. This afternoon, meet some of Chihuahua’s local children when you visit an orphanage supported by the Collette Foundation. The students give you a glimpse into their daily lives. Your hotel stands mere steps from Chihuahua’s beautiful Cathedral. Tonight, dinner is accompanied by traditional guitar music, creating a warm, cultural ambience.

    Day 8: Chihuahua - El Paso, Texas

    Embark on a tour of Chihuahua that features the home of famous Mexican Revolutionary leader Pancho Villa and a tour of the state capitol building among the highlights. Cross back into the United States, arriving in El Paso, Texas. Tonight, toast your unforgettable Copper Canyon experience at a farewell dinner.

    Days 1-2: New York Area & Washington DC

    First stop, the capital calls. Washington DC is the perfect introduction to the social, cultural and political history of the United States. Explore the best of America's Capitol - from the Smithsonian Museum to the Lincoln Memorial on the guided night time illumination tour. During the day the city is awash with greenery so once you're done with sightseeing, go people watching in the parks. Why not take advantage of the great nightlife in Georgetown!

    Days 3-4: Virginia & Tennessee

    From polished stone monuments to rocky paths, the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia put on a great glimpse of the rugged outdoors. In Tennessee, choose to don a lifejacket, grip a paddle and bounce along a churning stretch of white water on our optional rafting trip. Hey, we did say fast and furious!

    Day 5: Alabama/Mississippi

We head into the enchanting French Quarter of New Orleans and hear the real deal at Preservation Hall, echoing with chirpy trumpet and smooth sax. Sample a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's! New Orleans has more than just food, drink and music to offer. Do the Huckleberry Finn thing as you chug along the Mississippi River.

    Day 8: Louisiana/Texas

    Look for gators on our optional Louisiana swamp tour through the mysterious bayous of Cajun country (a must do!). The Lone Star bids you a big-hearted welcome for four nights in the mighty Texas.     Day 14: Monument Valley

    Venturing into the desert southwest, we hit the iconic Monument Valley used in Hollywood scenes from Westerns to 2001: A Space Odyssey and everything in between. Get jeep-bound and flit between towering buttes and massive mesas. This is sacred Navajo land; take home their secrets, legends and the odd handcrafted keepsake. Tonight, experience a stunning sunset overlooking the valley.

    Days 15-16: Grand Canyon National Park

    Days 19-20: Las Vegas

    With a sudden burst of neon, Vegas is right in your face - the greatest show on earth. Watch out though - some dub this place 'Lost Wages'! Why not cruise "The Strip" in a super-stretch limo, indulge in an all-you-can eat buffet, take in a show or just watch the amazing crowds, neon signs and attractions that many hotel casinos have to offer. And if that's not enough, take a helicopter flight back down The Strip or just gamble the night away in one of the world class casinos.

    Day 21: Los Angeles

    Journey across the desert and catch some California sun as you roll into the larger than life LA scene. Why not hang out at and people watch at Venice Beach tonight?

    Days 24-25: San Francisco

    San Francisco is next, "Everybody's Favourite City". Enjoy a full day to explore the city with plenty of time for shopping in China Town & Union Square, sightseeing and a stroll over the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe take a cruise on the bay for an unforgettable sunset, then go bar hopping 'til the tiny hours. Mission, Marina or Haight-Ashbury Districts usually check the right boxes.

    Days 26-27: Yosemite National Park

    Heading through Central California we take a scenic drive into the Yosemite National Park region and a chance to hike or bike through the extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths and spectacular waterfalls. Hike to Yosemite Falls, one of North America's highest, and capture El Capitan's great granite profile on camera. Keep your eyes peeled for the chance to view the park's abundant wildlife.

    Days 28-29: Lake Tahoe & Idaho/Nevada

    Set sail at Lake Tahoe on an optional sunset cruise or play the house in one of the flash casinos - though a gentle pedal boat ride, scenic parasailing or an energising jet-ski, may just as easily push your buttons. Now your posse heads across a heap more widescreen scenery as you edge westward through Idaho & Nevada.

    Days 30-31: Jackson

    Feel the old frontier spirit alive and kicking in the truly western town of Jackson, Wyoming. Fresh from conquering the Snake River rapids, one of America's last great untamed rivers, on an optional whitewater rafting trip, corral your posse into the nearest watering hole. Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a fine tip, with saddles for stools and trophy cow horns above the counter.

    Days 32-33: Yellowstone National Park

    Pitch up in the world's first National Park, Yellowstone. This is a superb wilderness of spouting geysers, waterfalls and simmering mud pools.     Next, it's Wild Wyoming, the heart of cowboy country, This is what Cody is all about. From its cowboy roots to its summer rodeos, shake a leg and try some two-step as the buckin' bronco rears its massive head!

    Yep, we're talking Mount Rushmore and the uniquely sculptured faces of our four greatest Presidents Close by, another rock-carved epic is shaping up: the Crazy Horse monument, a nod to the famed Lakota Indian war leader, very impressive!

    Days 36-37: Badlands National Park & South Dakota

    Never mind the "bad lands", touching down here feels like a moon landing. Low-slung buttes, chiselled spires and saw-tooth ridges have a bizarre lunar quality as you swap some photos. Resident coyotes may utter the occasional howl as you settle back for some shut-eye under canvas.

    Days 38-39: Chicago

    Our next stop is Chicago - the "Windy City", home to some of the greatest blues music in America. Soar up Willis Tower for dizzying views over the Windy City. Trawl the upmarket malls of Magnificent Mile and grab a slice of Chicago's deep-dish pizza before peddling on the included famous "Bobby's Bike Hike" tour.

    Ask a "Buckeye" to tell you all about their state nut or how cool they think Cedar Point Amusement Park's rollercoasters are! Ride the Millenium Force - the greatest roller coaster in the world!

    From the edge of Lake Ontario, the sensation of crashing water is stupendous, the noise immense, at America's greatest national attractions, Niagara Falls.     We roll into the New York Area and the end of our awesome Grand Trek!     Day 2: Float Viewing

    This morning you travel to Pasadena for a day combining the excitement of the season with fun-filled activities surrounding the Tournament of Roses. You’ll have an opportunity to view the floats as the decorating committee is putting on their final touches; attend Bandfest, featuring prize-winning bands, giving you a chance to see these talented musicians, dancers and auxiliary performers in action.     Happy New Year! Welcome to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, a grand tradition each New Year’s day since 1890. When the parade debuted, 2,000 citizens were on hand to witness history in the making. Today, more than 1 million spectators line the parade route. As Collette's guest, you will join them with reserved seating for prime viewing. After the parade, the remainder of your day is at leisure. Tonight, enjoy another evening of spectacular live entertainment carefully orchestrated just for you.

    Do you know your stalactite from your stalagmite? Carlsbad Caverns boasts over 100 limestone caves sporting glinting minerals and telling names like the Hall of the White Giant and Green Lake Room. The Lone Star then bids you a big-hearted welcome for four nights in the mighty Texas. The biggest state of the continental USA is also home to plenty of Mexican-American cuisine, "Tex-Mex", including spicy fajitas and tacos could be on the menu tonight.

    Days 11-12: San Antonio

    Day 13: Texas/Louisiana

    We say farewell to Texas and head into Louisiana. Look for gators on our optional swamp tour through the mysterious bayous of Cajun country (a must do!).

    Beyond Mississippi we hit Louisiana, home of the Big Easy & Bourbon Street. Now we're talking all that jazz! We head into the enchanting French Quarter of New Orleans and hear the real deal at Preservation Hall, echoing with chirpy trumpet and smooth sax. Sample a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's! New Orleans has more than just food, drink and music to offer. Do the Huckleberry Finn thing as you chug along the Mississippi River.

    Day 16: Mississippi/Alabama

    DAY 1 DEPART USA* - Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

    Day 2

    DAY 2 ARRIVE IN CAIRO, EGYPT - Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of your day is free to discover the amazing contrasts of ancient and modern Cairo.

    Day 3

    DAY 3 CAIRO / LUXOR / NILE CRUISE - A morning flight takes you from Cairo to Luxor on the River Nile. Board your luxury cruise ship in time for lunch. Later, visit the grand Temple of Luxor and the gigantic temple complex at Karnak. Explore the mighty temple of Amun with its pylons, columns and courts. Marvel at the remains of the amazing Avenue of the Sphinx, which once stretched between the Temples of Karnak and Luxor. Later, return to the cruise ship for a delicious dinner. (B,L,D)

    Day 4

    DAY 4 NILE CRUISE: LUXOR / EDFU - A highlight today is a visit to the Valley of the Kings. Secluded in the Theban Hills, it is where the New Kingdom pharaohs were buried in dramatically shafted tombs built into the hillsides. Next visit the Temple of Medinet Habou and on to the breathtaking Deir el Bahri, Queen Hat­shepsut's impressive temple. Then return to the ship and sail for Edfu. (B,L,D)

    DAY 5 NILE CRUISE: EDFU / KOM OMBO - This morning, visit Edfu to see Egypt's best preserved cult temple, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Then continue the tranquil cruise along the Nile, arriving at Kom Ombo. Why not relax on deck and enjoy the scenery as the ship glides past small villages? (B,L,D)

    DAY 6 NILE CRUISE: KOM OMBO / ASWAN - Visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, which was built for the falcon and crocodile gods, Sobek and Horus. From here, cruise to Aswan to take a traditional felucca ride across the Nile to visit the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener's Island. (B,L,D)

    Day 7

    DAY 7 ASWAN / CAIRO - Dis­embark to explore the High Dam. Then visit the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae and see the massive Unfinished Obelisk. Afterwards, there is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take an optional excursion to the Sun Temple of Abu Simbel, flanked by four giant stone statues of Ramses II, (weather permitting, see page 85 for details). Finally, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Cairo. (B)

    Day 8

    DAY 8 CAIRO - A full day of sightseeing includes the Citadel, the spectacular complex dominating Cairo's skyline. From here, visit the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Mohammed Ali's Alabaster Mosque with its highly ­decorated and ornate interior. In Old Cairo, visit the Hanging Church of St. Mary above the old Water Gate. Also visit the Egyptian Museum, home of King Tutankhamun's priceless treasures, discovered by Howard Carter in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. Your evening is free; you might want to take in an optional Egyptian folklore show. (B)

    Day 9

    DAY 9 PYRAMIDS EXCURSION - Drive to Memphis to see the Colossus of Ramses II and the Alabaster Sphinx. On to Sakkara, where the Step Pyramid ­heralded the start of the pyramid age. Then see the Sphinx, and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramids of Giza. (B)

    DAY 10 CAIRO - A free day to relax or maybe head to the bazaar. (B)
