John is a lifelong adventurer who has climbed Kilimanjaro, rafted the Zambezi, and trekked the Himalayas. He has chaired medical symposia in Cuba, toured North Korea, and lectured on sake in Japan. He makes his home in Santa Rosa, California, where he is a practicing physician and also President of Medical Exchange International, a non-profit charity dedicated to international health care collaboration. An avid photographer, John brings destinations alive both as a trip leader and as a lecturer with his enthusiasm, his intellectual energy, and his ability to respectfully share his fund of knowledge and underscore important historical and cultural themes that enrich understanding of each locale and its people.

John earned his B.A. in Literature at Brown University and his M.D. at Yale Medical School. He is also a certified graduate of the International Tour Management Institute.

John often teams up on the road with his wife and traveling companion of 26 years, Tina Freedman.
