Life-long Francophile (well, it seems a lifetime!), my jobs in Marketing have taken me across most of Europe as well as all those uncivilised places :-) where oil comes from... Having lived and run a business in France, I have developed one of those jaundiced love-hate relationships with the French. Cliched, (is that a FRENCH word??) arrogant, haughty, rude at times but possesed of a profound care for their country and culture, which to an Englishman like myself, whose Englishness is continually battered by successive waves of politically correct adjustments to the English way of life & culture, seems alien and attractive at the same time.
Thats not so say I don't have a place in my heart for England too - I guess my favourite travel book that celebrates this is "B@ll@cks to Alton Towers" which champions the different parts of England - its for people who want to make an effort and not be spoon-fed by the homogenisedm corporate side of tourism. I guess I should write my own version for France - working title "Up yours Delors" after an apocryphal Sun newspaper headline....
Currently to be found getting my annual dose of Francophilia running my tourist attraction for the summer season in down-town Padirac, next to the famous Gouffre.
